Are Things Cool with Your AC This Summer?

July 17, 2026

“Is the air conditioning really on? It’s SO HOT in here!”

Now that the heat of summer is here to stay, has your air conditioner been keeping up? Is it blowing warm air, making strange noises, or producing unusual odors? Then read on!

Here are top signs of AC problems to look for ... and what to do about it.

AC problems to look for:

  • Warm air and temperature inconsistency: Your home isn’t reaching the temperature set on your thermostat.
  • Weak or no airflow: Barely perceptible air from the vents usually points to a clogged filter, a blocked duct, or a failing blower motor.
  • Strange sounds or smells: Grinding, squealing, or loud buzzing noises indicate mechanical or electrical issues. Musty or burning smells often mean mold, mildew, or damaged wiring.
  • Moisture or leaks: Puddles of water around your indoor air handler or ice accumulating on the refrigerant lines (the copper pipes going into your indoor or outdoor unit) mean the system needs immediate attention.
  • Short-cycling: Your system turns on and off constantly without completing a full cooling cycle.

What to do about it:
